So this video held a long space for me and my friends. Filmed in 2013 in my room and on my friends’ rooftop, one summer we thought we had it all. We were smoking a lot of weed, I looked like a crazy person, and the vibes were high. Matt Westrich shot this video, and it seemed like the perfect concoction for success. The only twist is, as great as the footage was, I didn’t like the song at the time! And no one was really pressuring me to put it out.
So I spent the next 2 years recording (I was out in LA at the time), and Matt promised to hold the footage down. Eventually, in 2020 (following the release of The Basement), Matt was able to shuffle and find the footage that had been sitting on his hard drive for 7 years.
There’s actually two versions of this song. The 2015 version (see youtube), and the 2013 version. The cosmic irony of it all is that Matt used the 2013 version of this song when he edited the footage together. So it’s like all those re-recordings didn’t matter!! 🙁
